When Andrew Graham Ballenden Bannatyne donated the land for a badly-needed new Winnipeg General Hospital in 1884, Winnipeg was a town of just over 3000 people; farmers, merchants, traders and travelers.
Though a 10-bed hospital on Main Street – erected in just 6 months – was serviceable for the Winnipeg of his time, Bannatyne had great faith in the city’s potential, and knew that more would be needed for the Winnipeg of his future. He was right, and the Health Sciences Centre – still standing on the land he donated - is his legacy.
The Andrew Bannatyne Legacy Society recognizes donors who have shown this same sort of vision and generosity by making a planned gift to the Health Sciences Centre Foundation. Through a bequest, life insurance annuity or trust arrangement, they have chosen to support the future of health care. We are sincerely grateful to them.
If you are interested in making a planned gift to the Health Sciences Centre Foundation, or if you have already done so, please call us at (204) 787 2022 or email hsc_foundation@hsc.mb.ca. If you prefer, your commitment to the Health Sciences Centre Foundation can remain confidential. Advising us of your intentions allows us to show our appreciation, maintain accurate records, and ensure you are up to date on the impact of the legacy gifts made by others – like Andrew Bannatyne – in whose footsteps you follow.
Thank you.
