Harold Buchwald Endowment Fund

With the blessing of the Buchwald Family, the Board of Directors of the Health Sciences Centre Foundation would like to create The Harold Buchwald Endowment Fund to support the Harold Buchwald Memorial Lecture in Medical Ethics as a fitting and lasting tribute to Harold’s memory. This annual lecture will be offered to medical professionals and students from throughout the region.

Harold Buchwald joined the Board of Directors of the Health Sciences Centre Foundation in 1984 and served as Chair of the Board from 1989 to 1992. Upon the completion of his term as Chair, Harold was appointed an Honorary Director of the HSC Foundation in recognition of his dedication, commitment and contribution to furthering the work of the HSC Foundation.

Harold provided support and leadership for a variety of Foundation projects. He served as Secretary of the Foundations for Health Capital Campaign, chaired by Janice Filmon, for the construction of the John Buhler Research Centre, and most recently acted as an advisor for the HSC Foundation’s Breakthrough! Campaign in support of the building of the Institute for Advanced Medicine at HSC.

Harold had a keen interest in medical ethics. It was one of his many passions and his contributions in this area were unparalleled. He served as Chair: Ethics Committee, Health Sciences Centre from 1989 to 1997 and Chair: Ethics Committee, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority 1997 to 1999.
