Health Sciences Centre Foundation was able to provide eight Holter Monitors for the Adult Cardiology Department, in honour of Jerome Malbranck.
The Holter Monitor is a portable device for continuously monitoring electrical activity of the central nervous system. It is used for monitoring heart activity, and for observing occasional cardiac arrhythmias or epileptic events which would be difficult to identify in a shorter period of time.
“The new Holter Monitors generate the data we need more quickly, allowing us to schedule more patients each day. That means treatment plans can be finalized more efficiently, leading to shorter wait times for patients,” said Evelyn Souvie, Senior Technologist, EKG Services, HSC. “We expect to monitor 20 additional patients every month, as a direct result of this gift.”
“The new monitors generate the 48 hours of data we need, and provide increased information about the heart so that our doctors can get a clearer picture of what’s going on,” said Souvie. “They are smaller, making them easier to use and more convenient for the patient. Our staff and our patients will enjoy the benefits of this gift every day.”
The Malbranck family, together with their friends, held a Walk of Remembance for Jerome Malbranck on a beautiful August day at Bird’s Hill Park. The funds raised were designated for cardiac equipment, research and patient care at HSC and made this purchase possible.
