Vital Signs Monitors

In a wonderful example of need-meets-opportunity, gifts to Health Sciences Centre Foundation from Rose Rudko and donations made in memory of Melva Mitchell were recently directed to the purchase of non-invasive (no pokes) vital signs monitors.

These portable monitors record patients’ blood pressure, heart rate, temperature and oxygen level, measurements useful in tracking the body’s most basic functions and in detecting and monitoring medical problems.

Patients admitted to HSC are often very ill and require frequent monitoring. These monitors are mobile and easily manoeuvred, allowing the monitor to be brought to the patient, rather than the patient taken to the equipment. This fosters safer patient care and facilitates the nurses’ ability to monitor acutely ill patients.

HSC Foundation is committed to making sure that hospital staff have the tools and resources they need to provide the best possible care for patients. HSC’s Volunteer Enterprises also made a significant contribution to this project.
