The first meeting of the Board of Directors of the Health Sciences Centre Research Foundation, chaired by Mr. William C. Gardner, was held on September 5, 1981. In 1990, the name of the organization was changed to reflect its increased mandate to support enhanced patient care as well as medical research.

Since that time, the Health Science Centre Foundation, working in partnership with the Health Sciences Centre, has invested in innovative health care projects leading to groundbreaking discoveries and advances in patient care and treatment at the Health Science Centre.
