Largest Crowd in Event History Enjoys Savour South Africa: Wine & Food Experience

WINNIPEG—February 26, 2019—The Health Sciences Centre Foundation has raised $548,065 to support patient care at HSC, thanks to donors and supporters who attended the ninth annual Savour Wine & Food Experience, presented by Qualico and in partnership with Manitoba Liquor Marts. More than 570 guests enjoyed a lively evening of food, wine, entertainment, and décor inspired by South Africa on Saturday, February 23 at the RBC Convention Centre.

“Throughout the evening our guests enjoyed outstanding wines and South African-inspired culinary creations all in support of Manitoba’s hospital,” says Jonathon Lyon, President & CEO of the HSC Foundation. “Thank you to all our guests, donors, sponsors, volunteers, and staff who made this an outstanding evening for all.”

Guests were treated to a true South African experience, complete with savannah décor accented with sunset-tones, iconic foods and wines, and a travelling safari guide. The Big City All Star Band had the dance floor filled, while those in attendance generously supported the HSC Foundation through its live auction.

“My heart is full,” says Tina Jones, Chair of the HSC Foundation Board,Savour Committee Chair. “Our Savour evening full of splendor, diversity and great wines with friends and colleagues, brought generosity that will change lives and bring comfort to thousands of Manitobans and their families.”

Our Fund-A-Need auction raised $200,000 for new specialized miniature telescopes and a lithotripter machine to better treat patients with kidneystones. These devices allow doctors to break up stones and then remove them through very small holes in the skin. The patient never has to pass the stone fragments through urination. The new equipment will mean less bleeding and less damage to the kidney.

Because of your support, we’re able to make a significant contribution to the quality of health care in Manitoba.

“We believe that our success as a company brings with it a responsibility to give back to the communities in which we live and work,” said Kevin Van, President of Qualico. “This is why we are proud to support the HSCFoundation and their efforts to improve health care for all of us in this province.”
