These grants are one way
donors help bring the future of health care to Manitoba today.
“The HSC Foundation is proud to
support these projects that have the potential to transform patient care in
Manitoba and beyond,” says Jonathon Lyon, President and CEO of the HSC
Foundation. “These initiatives will enhance the knowledge of our medical teams,
and could lead to better diagnoses and treatment methods. Thank you to our
donors, who make this research possible.”
Each application was reviewed by
experts in their respective fields at HSC. There were four different
competitions:
- GeneralOperating Grant Competition
- AlliedHealth Grant Competition
- Dolly& Michael Gembey Nursing Research Award & Grant Competition
- Mindel& Tom Olenick Research Award in Immunology Competition
“This year’s projects focus on many
key areas of care at HSC, including inflammatory diseases, neurosurgery, mental health, chronic pain, and
degenerative disorders,” says Paul Wiebe, Director of Research Administration
at HSC. “It is incredibly important for Manitobans that we invest in innovative
medical research, because it strengthens our understanding and application of
patient care.”
Since 1981, HSC Foundation donors
have supported more than 400 research projects, equipping thousands of
researchers with over 55,000-square feet of dedicated research space filled
with cutting-edge technology and equipment. Supporting local and new research
helps foster a strong research community in Manitoba, and is key to improving
care for patients and their loved ones.
