Educator. Leader. Teammate.

Amber Wiens, nurse educator at HSC Women’s, is all the above—and more.

From rural Manitoba, Wiens began her career in Brandon before taking a position on the labour, delivery, recovery, postpartum (LDRP) unit at St. Boniface Hospital. Adding to this role, she served as a clinical education facilitator in local undergraduate BN programs before furthering her nursing education and landing in her current role at HSC Women’s Hospital.

“One of the aspects I like best about working at HSC is the number of resources we have. You’re never alone; there are so many specialties and experienced, knowledgeable nurses, and multiple disciplines that you’re never really alone. It’s a team,” says Wiens.

A main daily mission for Wiens is to support nurses here at HSC and province-wide, to navigate complex clinical situations and be empowered with the knowledge and skills required for delivery of safe, quality, and compassionate care. Wiens cites seeing students and novice nurses shine in their own way and come to share in her passion for women’s health nursing as some of the most rewarding parts of being a nurse educator.
