Christine Dyck, nurse in HSC Winnipeg’s Plastics Emergency Clinic

On any given day, you can find Christine Dyck in HSC Winnipeg’s Plastics Emergency Clinic tending to patients requiring reconstructive plastic surgery due to trauma, burns, or disease with the highest level of care and compassion.

Drawn to the field of health care since middle school, Dyck began her nursing career at HSC Winnipeg nearly 14 years ago. Currently, Dyck predominantly provides care for patients with hand fractures and hand wounds. “Our work makes a big difference in the lives of patients as we repair their ability to have hand function,” notes Dyck.

One of Dyck’s most memorable moments in her career happened in her first year as a nurse. Dyck worked her first Christmas Eve shift and had a teenage patient under her care who was struggling with spending the holiday away from his loved ones. Due to the nature of his injury, Dyck had to check on him frequently and felt grateful that she was able to be there with him to lend support during that tough time.

Learn more about the wide spectrum of care Dyck delivers in the below video.
