Helping HSC improve patient care in 2024 and beyond

The HSC Foundation is raising $200,000 to purchase a new indocyanine green (ICG) angiography unit.

New health care technology is the key to a better future for Manitobans. This new generation of equipment allows surgeons to have a better view of what is happening inside a patient’s body; and the equipment supports a move toward more minimally invasive surgery.

With better visualization tools—including small cameras and high-definition monitors—minimally invasive surgical techniques enable surgeons to make smaller incisions and perform their work with levels of precision never before possible. It is truly astounding!

This state-of-the-art unit helps detect abnormalities in blood flow so that they can be addressed during surgery, thereby avoiding complications later on.

What this means for the patient is less pain, lower risk of complications, and a faster recovery. We are already hearing reports of patients going home within hours of certain procedures, thanks to equipment funded by donors to our $100 million Operation Excellence campaign.

This indocyanine green (ICG) angiography unit will support a number of surgical specialties across HSC: colorectal, plastics, urology, gynecology, orthopedic, head and neck, and others.

While the Health Sciences Centre Foundation’s Operation Excellence campaign marches toward the finish line, we are conducting a number of related campaigns to enhance patient care and improve patient outcomes. This includes our $200,000 “Fund-A-Need” campaign to purchase a new indocyanine green (ICG) angiography unit. This state-of-the-art unit helps detect abnormalities in blood flow so that they can be addressed during surgery, thereby avoiding complications later on. The unit will be used thousands of times a year, providing patients with better surgical outcomes and easier recoveries.

Through the investments we make—fuelled by your generosity—we are focused on deploying the latest diagnostic and surgical technology, reducing wait lists, shortening hospital stays, and helping Manitobans get back to their regular lives as quickly and seamlessly as possible. In other words—and with your support—our sights are set on helping HSC deliver tomorrow’s health care, today.

With gratitude,
