For National Nursing Week 2023, join us in celebrating Brysen Guenther, RN BN, perioperative nurse in HSC’s Adult Surgery program
“A nurse is someone who wears all the hats. We are kind of like the glue to health care, keeping it all together,” says Brysen Guenther, RN, BN.
Guenther’s love of helping people and his interest in human physiology were just two of the reasons why he pursued a career in nursing. As a perioperative nurse (a nurse that works with patients who are having operative or other invasive procedures) on the Adult Surgery team, Guenther’s role changes throughout the day, but his favourite role is when he has the opportunity to scrub for the procedure which allows him to get his “hands dirty” and be side by side with the surgeon.”.
Guenther says nursing can be a very rewarding profession. He is constantly helping people with life-altering accidents and emergency surgeries. Helping save lives can be very satisfying, especially when you see the immediate results right on the operating table.
Guenther is also a part of a team of medical professionals designing a hybrid vascular operating room, which will hold cutting-edge technology that will not only benefit the patients, but staff as well. This hybrid operating room is one of the surgical innovations supported by Operation Excellence, the HSC Foundation’s bold six-year plan to elevate health care.
You can learn more about the critical work Guenther does in the video below.
